Welcome to Year 6 - Responsibility!
Year 6 are currently reading The London Eye Mystery by Siobhan Dowd in our English lessons. We are also enjoying our class read - Wonder by R. J. Palacio.
We have been busy in Spring Term. In January, we started our new book with a fantastic adventure to London to ride the London Eye. It really helped to bring our book to life and we also managed to see some other famous landmarks - check out our photo gallery below.
In addition to our class reads, we have been doing lots of investigations around measurements, volume and shapes. We have been making discoveries about light in Science and we have been researching the fascinating times of the Maya civilization.
Last term, we read Berlie Doherty's Street Child in English. The children loved finding out the story of Jim Jarvis, the orphan who inspired Doctor Barnardo to set up his famous child's refuge. If children would like to continue to read about the Jarvis family, Berlie Doherty has written Far From Home, the story of Jim's sisters called Emily and Lizzie. It is available from Amazon and book shops.
We look forward to sharing photos, videos and stories from our work on this page over the forthcoming year. We would also ask you to follow @GarstonCE on Twitter where we will be sharing exciting news from our classroom.
We hope you enjoy looking at our page,
Mr Power, Miss Stanley and Mrs Murphy.
We have been reading 'Street Child' by Berlie Doherty. After reading Chapter 2, we created freeze frames to mark a particular moment of the story. We then realised it was the perfect time to try the viral craze - mannequin challenge!
WWI Exhibition at St Michael's Church
We were delighted to visit St Michael's Church on Friday 11th November 2016 for their World War I Exhibition. We attended with Year 5 and we discovered all about the residents of Garston who fought in the war. In the days leading up to our trip, we created silhouette artwork which was put on display at the Church for their exhibition - we were very proud to see it on the wall during our trip.
Some of our children have been using Numicon to help them with their short division method. This short film demonstrates how we use the apparatus and why we enjoy using it.
